昨晩はなかなか寝れず。今朝はあまり目覚めが良くなかったのだけど、スマホでニュースを見たら眠気がサッと引いて代わりに胸がざわつき始めた。

ああ、なんてこと。ノートルダムが燃え尖塔が崩れ落ちている。

まさに寝耳に水だった。きっとこれは私が名前を知らない映画のワンシーン。そう願ったけれど、遥か海の向こうで巻き起こるっている悲劇には違いなかった。

愛しいパリの景色、そのシンボルの１つであるノートルダムが炎と煙に包まれているのを見るのはなんとも苦い味わいだった。取り返しのつかない状況にただ立ち尽くすしかなくて侘しさを持て余す。パリの人々はどんな気持ちだっただろう。

ノートルダムには留学中に３度訪れた。最初はひとりで祈りを捧げに。フランスを出国する日の朝には友達と一緒に最後の観光としてシテ島に足を運んだ。ステンドグラスはこの上ないほど美しく、建物の存在感、空気感、威圧感は荘厳。多くの人にとって特別な場所だと思う。

聖堂の奥にノートルダムの建築のプロセスを説明する資料が展示されているんだけど、それを見たときに、完成までに掛かった月日の長さに衝撃を受けたんだよね。

「ノートルダム大聖堂の建立開始は１１６３年。パリで初めて建てられたキリスト教寺院の聖イシュトヴァーン大聖堂があった場所に、パリ司教モーリス・ド・シュリーの指揮のもとで始められた工事は２世紀もの歳月をかけ、１３４５年にようやく完成。」

再築するとマクロン大統領は宣言したけれど、失われた建物の歴史を思うとなんだかやるせない。

数年後にまたパリを訪れたいと夢見ていたけど、もうノートルダムには当分入れないだろうなぁー。

なんとなーくまた来れるだろうなって思ってたけど、そうもいかない事もあるよね。訪れる全ての場所や見える景色が永遠に存在すると思い込んでたけど、考え直しちゃうな。諸行無常。

これって大切な人との関係にも共通する事だと思う。

数週間前、まだ東京にいる時に祖母の訃報を受けてすっ飛んで帰った。

もうお年寄りだったから残りの時間が少ないのは承知だったけれど、お正月に祖母と面会した時はまさかそれが最後の時間になるとは思ってなかった。

Selena Gomezが10年くらい前に歌ってた「Live like there is no tomorrow」とか Megan Trainorの「Like I'm gonna lose you」みたいなフレーズを使うとなんだか大袈裟に聞こえちゃうけど、「いま、同じような時間」がいつまで続くかなんてわかんないのは間違いない。

だから一期一会を心がけるって大切だよね。

会いたい人には会う。行きたい場所には行く。大切な人に丁寧に接する。後悔のない人生にしたい。

As soon as I woke up, I got out from bed to turn the alarm off. I didn't sleep so good so I was still sleepy. But as I scrolled my twitter feed, my eyes got opened wide because I couldn't believe what I saw.

Notre-Dame cathedral, the iconic symbol of the beauty and history of Paris was horribly damaged by the fire.

Th flames pulled down the church’s towering spire. The inferno burst through iconic stained-glass windows. My heart was broken too.

I have been to Notre-Dame three times while I was studying in France. The place is special. It was the very last place I visited right before the flight to go back to Japan. The architecture is magnificent and the atmosphere inside is so holy.

The cathedral was 850 years old. It took them more than 2 centuries to finish the construction.

It's sad that most parts are destroyed. But also, that made me realized how important it is to live in each moment.

I travel a lot and I often think "Oh, I have to come back here one day." But there is no promised "next time." Really, most of the things don't last forever.

It's the same in relationship as well.

About 3 weeks ago, my grand mother passed away. She turned 95 years old right before the day, so I knew that the rest of her life wasn't so long. However, it was sudden. The last time I saw her was 3 months ago and I didn't know that the was going to be the very last moment with her.

It may sounds too dramatic to say "Live like there is no tomorrow" but it is definitely important to cherish the moment.

In Japanese, there is a well-known proverb Ichigo-Ichie, which means ‘one time, one meeting’. we live ‘each moment, only once’ and that the value of each encounter is that it happens only once in a lifetime.

I need to remember that always.
